I don't know why, but I just started thinking about this car this morning. It looks subdued, yet cool. Plus, it could be had with 230 horsepower for the 2006 model year, apparently, getting it up to sixty miles an hour in six seconds. And prices for non-Aero models seem to start at around $7500 with less than 150,000 kilometres on them. I wonder what the gas mileage is like and if the insurance is cheaper than an Impreza of the same year.
Anyone have any impressions of this car? Or have any other unreasonable wants as of the moment?

I think insurance was cheaper because the saabs were usually bought by more restrained people.
everything else is more or less identical to the subaru. milage, maintenance, parts availability, you name it.

Head Gaskets do taste pretty good don't they?

I'm sure the gas mileage is the same as the WRX, probably about 20ish mpg combined on premium. Insurance rates would be slightly higher for full coverage due to the more expensive / difficult to find body parts.
Honestly I've always liked the 9-2, but I think they look odd with the Subaru hood scoop. I'd prefer one of the older non-turbo ones.

Yeah, yeah, I know. But still, I'd love to rock one.

Cheaper insurance would be nice, and similar parts would be an awesome bonus.

I'm still having difficulty finding fuel economy numbers for it. And would insurance be higher even without having the WRX stigma?
I think the scoop looks pretty good. It's definitely looks more streamlined than the WRX models.

I was briefly considering one. Someone told me they had electrical issues. I never researched it any further though.

Insurance is about as much as my 01 forester for my aero. Ask me anything you want to know about it.

US EPA's site: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/20…
You can do the conversion if you use that kiloliters per meterhicky system... ;)

Saabaru doesn't suffer from head gasket problems. Rod bearings are the issue.

Insurance is indeed cheaper than a comparable Impreza. IIRC when I was searching for cars, a turbo 9-2X was cheaper to insure than a non-turbo Subie.
You should be able to squeeze 7-7.5l/100km highway, 9-10l/100km city out of a non-turbo, which is reasonable. Not sure about mileage on the turbo.

I tried using their site earlier, but it kept crashing for me. Thanks for getting me a working link!
And the fuel economy is just as good as the Maxima I'm used to driving. Interesting...

How difficult was it to find an Aero, and would you recommend it as a daily driver? I may need a car for co-op next year, and this is higher up on my list of unreasonable possibilities.

My brain says go with the non-turbo, but my brain also said looking at these was a good idea, so I'm not going to listen to it.

It won't be easy as they only number in a couple of thousands. To be honest I originally wanted a wrx, but read about the Saab 92x on here and did a search and found one in a 300 mile radius. Price was right, and I bought the first saabaru I ever saw. Mine has quite a bit of mods but it's my beater car. Daily driving it's great, it's steering wheel is nice a tight, seats are comfortable, and it actually has some luxurious amenities. (Auto climate, sunroof, leather.) Seats were much more comfortable then my friends wrx. Gas mileage isn't amazing, but mines pretty modified and I'd say it's a trade off for the much better drivers feel.

Yeah, it seems like it'd be impossible to find one of these in Aero, but the base ones seem to be pretty popular. Thanks!

100% the same mechanically as the equivalent year WRX. I take my 2005 I've had since new to the Subaru dealer for parts haha. Too bad I'm not ready to replace it as my daily yet with something new (something not being helped by Subaru's delays in bringing a new WRX wagon/hatch to market) or else I'd ask how interested you were (as I said, had her since new and only 93K miles on it).
As others have said, cheaper insurance, equivalent to WRX for massive sleeper potential, and all the right attention from those who know what it is and none of the annoying attention from the wrong people (cops, all those idiots who want to race you if you're in an STi/EVO). Shame she never got to be the sleeper I intended, this little beauty took that fund in an instant haha.

Yeah, I'm not looking to buy one just yet. And sweet 3-series!
